Review Topic: Other Experience

We went through an uncommon process of acquiring my child's citizenship through a grandparent.
This office was excellent, fast, efficient, friendly and accommodating.

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

I am the US citizen writing this. We had a very good experience in Norfolk but it was definitely not what we expected. We had an 8 am appointment time on 2/12. For use that meant we had to drive in the day before and stay the night. I would recommend La Quinta Inn as a good place to stay. 1 mile from the USCIS site and cheap as far as Norfolk goes.
We arrived to our appointment 20 minutes early. Other were there as well as multiple people are given the same time. The office began to let us in at 7:50am. Everyone goes through airport style security. That went smoothly. After the security check you are called to the appointment desk (which is right behind security). The desk checks you in and sends you to the second floor where the interviews take place. At both the security check and the appointment desk you had to show your appointment letter and ID (we both used Virginia driver licences).

We barely sat down when we were called back for the interview. Our interview lasted maybe 20 minutes tops. We were called back by a professionally nice lady. I am sorry to say I have forgotten her name. I use professionally nice because that's the best way I can describe her. Not overly friendly but nice. She did not make you feel like she was trying to trip you up or find a way to disqualify you.
We stood for the oath first in her office. She asked for our proof of identity (specifically she asked for our driver licenses). My husband was then photographed and his fingerprints taken (index fingers only). For the next may 10 minutes she reviewed the I485 form with Aaron. Asked his name, parents names how many kids he had and went through all the yes/no questions that are on the form. She read them and he gave the answer. She asked him where he lived in the US and when he entered the US. She asked when we got married and asked him if he went by any other names. She also gave us the chance to make any corrections on the form (we had 1 typo).
She then asked me if anything had changed in relation to my job. It had not. She asked me if I had any kids. That was the extent of my questions as the US citizen.

She asked us to produce ORIGINALS of the following: birth certificates, divorce papers as we had both been previously divorced, Aaron's passport, and our marriage certificate. She said Aaron's final divorce decree had not been submitted only the initial decree. We gave her the final as we were surprised it had not been sent (yes we used a lawyer and yes we checked the papers but obviously we all missed it. She said she was surprised we werent given an RFE for it on submission but she guessed noone else caught it either. Regardless we had it and gave it to her which of course was fine.
She then asked if we had any new evidence to present of our relationship. We front loaded our application so I knew what she had. We gave her a few new items, deed, beneficiary items and new bank statements. When she looked at the bank statements she asked us each for our debit cards and went through the statement to make sure there were debits from BOTH of us.

After that she took our licenses and Aaron's passport and left the office. She returned with them and a form saying that his green card has been approved and will be in the mail. She explained about the removal of conditions in 2 years.
That was it. We were never asked any questions about our relationship though its a bit obvious to anyone we are legit. We've been together many years and I even lived in his country for several years. We were pleasantly surprised to find out we were approved as I have seen others say they were not told. The officer asked if we had any questions she could answer before we left. We had none. We were finished and out before 8:30 am.

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Me and my husband entered the office 45 minutes prior to the interview. We waited for too long and got called in separately. We were totally surprised as we were not expecting to be called in separately. The interviewing officer called my husband first who is a US citizen and when i stood up, she said that she just needed him. My husband told me that the officer asked for his ID, lease and tax returns and nothing else, no pictures, nothing. Since my husband is a sponsor, she gave him a printed letter explaining him about the sponsorship. He said that the officer has gone through general questions. After 30 minutes or so, my husband returned to the waiting area and she then called my name. The officer made me take an oath, and asked for my ID. I showed her the ID and started asking questions from our I485 application. She asked dates of our relationship and the dates when i lived in Virginia. She asked me a tricky question to which I told that i work in Virginia and I used to visit my husband in NJ few times a month last year. The way i was interviewed made me little anxious and worried. The officer has gone through all the other questions and i think everything else went well other than that particular question. Finally, she asked me to sign the application which meant some information on the application has changed. I did not ask the officer whether we are approved when she was walking me out. She said, she will request for a document but did not receive one yet. I was also not given any paper at the end of the interview and my case status also did not change. It's been more than 8 months after the interview now and still waiting for my card. We raised a service request and the request is also not assigned to any officer yet. I wish we have the green card in hand by now. The PD for our application is May, 2018. The wait is definitely a pain for us and makes us nervous. We did the filing ourselves and did not hire a lawyer at any time. But i suggest that you hire a lawyer even if you have all the required documents. This will ensure that you rest peacefully every night in case of any unknown delays. I'm very positive that I receive the card soon. I wish you all the best.

Entered the office 1st at 7:45 made our way upstairs waited till 9 am for an 8 am interview. Woman was pleasant Interview was pretty informal and we didn't have any inclination of how it was going to turn out. Told us we could inquire after 120 days so we figured we'd be waiting. Recieved notice Saturday morning that I was approved
